Atomic Writing: Day 0
Yesterday I put both pairs of my glasses
More than a decade old
Arms broken
Nosepads missing
Screws loose
Into a pouch
And the pouch
Into my purse
Arriving at the optician’s office
To have them repaired,
I opened my purse
To find the pouch
Was gone
Thrice retracing my steps
Produced nothing
And I went from having two pairs of corrective lenses
To none
Now I need an Eye Test
And to choose new lenses and frames
First I felt I should berate myself
Make myself feel stupid and careless To have lost both pairs
Of an essential item
At the same time
Leaving me with no lenses
To help me see
But actually, my heart laughed:
How fitting
That in this season of wishing
To let go of old perspectives
Bring in new visions
That on the way to have your old viewscreens fixed
The Earth instead lightened you of them
And opened you up
To renewing your ways of seeing
Putting a different frame around your sight
Checking the acuity of your vision
How fortunate that
You didn’t spend any more time
Fixing the old lenses
To see the world through them
For another ten years to come
What luck
That you now get to pick
Your new look on life
